Kulning

This was an assignment for one of my illustration classes at Ringling College of Art and Design. We were supposed to invent an environment that is a habitat for a character that we had to create ourselves. I chose a to draw a little cottage for a Scandinavian farmer who is using the traditional herding call, also known as "kulning", to return the cows to their barn as dusk falls.

I tried to use warm colors to create a calm mood and to convey that the scene takes place during the sunset.
